Today was very adventurous.....We started off our day at the restaurant of the Victory Hotel...Good food! Donovan ate several of these tiny little fruits called Linguan. The fruit was a grayish color but tasted a bit like cherries. I had the Chinese version of Honey Nut Cheerios and British Tea....also a big glass of Alka-Seltzer. The plane food caught up with me.
After breakfast we took in the sights and smells of China. The smells here are just amazing. You can be walking along and smell fantastic herbs like nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger, and then turn the corner and it smells like Terre Haute. We went to the Qing Ping Market. It is a VERY crowded open market where people sell dried herbs, fruits, nuts, and a huge variety of animals. This was REAL China. It was so cool to assimilate in that culture today and also a bit intimidating. One of the men in the adoption group went there yesterday and was robbed. He was carrying 2100.00 us money and somebody burned him with a cigarette and then another guy bumped into him and took his money. We've been very cautious though. We carry very little money on us.
Tonight at dinner we ate at a restaurant called The Cow and Bridge. It is a Thai restaurant. We ate roasted chicken, complete with the head on it. Phillip and Alex ate the head (brains included) ....gross.
We also had Thai Pigs Feet. You all would have loved it. It tasted like the best barbecued pork you've ever had. We also had shrimp and pork spring rolls, steamed chicken with glass noodles, steamed rice and tea. The portions were very generous and the grand total for dinner was 17.00 u.s. I've included pictures of our adventures today. Notice the scorpions. They suppposedly taste like crab. Who knows......maybe that will be lunch tomorrow. Love to all!!
MK - I love, love, love you and miss you so much. Donovan said he misses you. We saw some beautiful dresses today. I'm looking for the perfect one for you!! I love you more than the moon and stars girlie girl!
